"Dog" is the first album by the Baptist Generals. It was recorded in the singer's kitchen in Denton, Texas, at the end of the 90's and released in March 2000 by Quality Park in the U.S. and later that year in Europe by Munich Records. It's an amazing record, made with the most radical punk spirit, taking country, gospel and folk to their most primitive state. Like a new "ground zero" in modern music, "Dog" is the perfect reflection of the uncertain times from which it emerged. It's a crazy record where you can hear echoes from the forgotten heroes of Harry Smith's "Anthology of American Folk Music", from the Delta Blues' legendary singers, but also from some more contemporary musicians like The Fugs, The Shaggs, Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band, the Violent Femmes and the great Oblivians. In other words, it's pure dynamite and definitely a "cult" record.
Today, Longues Ondes reissues the album in its original form (with the 8 tracks of the Quality Park edition). It's the first vinyl version of the album ever and it's limited to 200 copies. All the records will be numbered, the first 60 coming in an even more limited edition in white splatter vinyl. The others will be on black vinyl. The downloadable version of the album available with the vinyl will also include the 6 extra tracks that the band recorded a year later for the Munich CD.
The 8 tracks version of the album being pretty short, we decided to keep all the songs on the same side. So it's a one-side record.
We should receive the records in May.
